Wild boar. A creature commonly spotted at The Preserve. Fun little boar story for ya: wild boars had a habit of tearing up the front lawn at Kat’s parents home in The Preserve. In an effort to scare them off, Kat’s mom set out a radio timed to go off in the middle of the night when they begin their nighty digging. One weekend in 2014ish, Kat went up to the Preserve house with friends while her parents were out of town, completely unaware of this radio trap which had been set. Out of nowhere, grainy music began softly playing throughout the house. Luckily it wasn’t a serial killer, just a very benign boar trap :)
Margarita. Drink of choice for many an evening at The Preserve. The Hacienda (formerly a residence which has now become a restaurant and community gathering spot and will be the site of our ceremony!) has a great bar are known for whipping up a killer marg.
Kangaroo. Not indigenous to The Preserve. One of our favorite fuzzy friends from our time living down under. M&K lived in Canberra, Australia for 2 1/2 years and absolutely loved it. We saw kanagaroos all over the dang place and frequently went on trail runs on a mountain called Mt. Ainslie where you could reliably see heaps of roos in the morning and at twilight.
Wild Turkey. Turkeys are abundant all over The Preserve. The Kavner house was named “Turkey Doodle” in honor of the flocks of turkeys that would trot all around the property, lovingly dropping turkey poo all over the front yard and driving Kat’s mom crazy (between the boar digging and the turkey poo it’s no wonder they sold the house!).
Golf. The Preserve has a great golf course where we’ve been hitting the links lately. For many years, Matt resisted getting into golf because he didn’t like the look of the clothes but recently he’s become completely hooked. M&K have now been able to play several rounds of golf with both sets of their parents which has been a blast (technically Shelly just observed but it still counts!).
Red Ford 1955 pickup. One of Kat’s dad’s vintage cars that became a staple feature in The Preserve landscape. Friends and fam would pile into the truck bed to visit the Redwood grove or head to dinner at The Hacienda. He has since sold the truck but it maaaay be making a special guest appearance at the wedding :)
Koala. Another fuzzy friend we came to love while living in Australia. We spent Christmas of 2020 in Australia and went to visit our friend Karla outside of Melbourne. She took us on a drive to see wild koalas and we saw probably 20+ of them just hanging out in the trees. Just as cute as you would imagine!!
PICKLE BALL! We got completely hooked on pickle ball after one game at The Preserve. It has since become one of our favorite pastimes. This is also the only doodle Kat contributed to the set.
Matt & Kat. Hopefully we look better on our actual wedding day!
